Leader Dogs for the Blind provides guide dogs white cane training and orientation mobility instruction at no cost to blind and visually impaired individuals including veterans. Residential training programs at Michigan campus teach safe independent travel skills. Guide dog training includes 26-day residential program with personalized instruction. White cane training available as standalone or preparation for guide dog. GPS technology training helps navigate unfamiliar environments. Summer Experience Camp for teens builds confidence and skills. Lifetime support includes veterinary consultation successor dogs and refresher training. Application process includes home visit skills assessment and matching process. Veterans receive priority consideration. International applicants accepted. Founded 1939 with over 14500 guide dog teams placed.
