Home Improvements and Structural Alterations HISA grants help veterans with service-connected and non-service-connected disabilities modify homes for accessibility and safety. Lifetime benefit up to $6800 for service-connected veterans $2000 for non-service-connected. Improvements include ramps widened doorways accessible bathrooms roll-in showers grab bars stair lifts and lowered counters. Veterans in temporary residences eligible if residing minimum one year. Applications processed through VA Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service. Medical documentation required demonstrating need for modifications. Can be used multiple times until lifetime limit reached. Complements other VA home modification programs including SAH and SHA grants. Veterans own or family member owns home eligible. Work must be completed by licensed contractors meeting local building codes.
